Cricket dates back in the 8th-10th century. But the first definite mention of the game in the English Language comes from a statement by a 59 year old coroner, John Derrick, in 1559, where he testified that he used to play ‘kreckett’ with his friends on a disputed plot of land in Guildford, some fifty years ago (around 1550) .
